About dryer repair in Tampa Bay

Why dryers fail in Florida — and how we fix them.

Long dry times in Tampa Bay are almost always a venting problem, not a dryer problem. Florida humidity slows evaporation, lint accumulates faster in long horizontal vent runs, and the result is a unit that runs two and three cycles for one load — burning the heating element early and tripping the thermal fuse.

We diagnose dryers as a system, not just a box: heating element, thermal fuse and high-limit, blower wheel, exhaust path and the dryer-end vent connection all get checked on a single visit. We also carry the OEM heating elements, fuses, igniters (gas), belts, idler pulleys and drum-support rollers for every common brand.

If your dryer runs but doesn't heat, takes 90+ minutes per load, smells burnt mid-cycle, or won't start at all, book a diagnostic. We provide a written flat-rate quote and a one-year warranty on every repair.

Symptoms we fix

If your dryer is doing any of this, book a diagnostic.

  • No heat
  • Won't tumble
  • Long dry time
  • Burning smell
  • Won't start

What's included

Every dryer job covers:

  • Heating element test
  • Thermal fuse check
  • Vent flow inspection
  • Drum & belt service

Common causes

The failures we see most on dryers.

Five to seven failures account for the vast majority of dryer service calls. Here's what we find on the truck.

  1. 01

    Blocked or kinked exhaust vent

The single most common cause of 'my dryer is broken.' Lint chokes the vent, hot moist air can't escape, the unit overheats and trips the thermal fuse. Always inspect the vent before condemning electrical parts.

  2. 02

    Heating element burned out (electric)

Coil snaps and the element draws no current. Dryer tumbles but air stays cold. Common after a vent blockage cooks the element — replacing without fixing the vent will fail again in months.

  3. 03

Igniter or flame sensor failed (gas)

Gas dryers: igniter glows but flame doesn't light, or doesn't glow at all. Igniter is a 45-minute swap. Flame sensors are cheap but tricky to diagnose without a meter.

  4. 04

    Thermal fuse blown

One-shot fuse — once it blows, the dryer runs but produces no heat. Always replace alongside the high-limit thermostat, and always fix the root cause (almost always vent restriction).

  5. 05

Idler pulley, belt or drum rollers worn

Squeaking, thumping, or a drum that won't spin. Belt + idler + roller kits are usually replaced together since they wear at the same rate.

  6. 06

Door switch or start switch failure

Won't start at all — door switch contacts fail or the start button breaks internally. Quick fixes, often missed by non-specialists.

Typical pricing

Honest flat-rate ranges for dryer repair.

Real ranges from real jobs. You'll get a written all-in quote before any work starts — these are not gotcha estimates.

RepairTypical range
Diagnostic visit$89
Heating element (electric)$235 – $365
Igniter (gas)$235 – $345
Thermal fuse & high-limit$195 – $285
Idler pulley & belt$245 – $345
Drum-support rollers$265 – $365
Vent cleaning (separate add-on)$120 – $180

Pricing reflects parts + labor for typical residential installs. Premium built-in units (Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Miele) and sealed-system work run higher and are quoted individually.

Brand-specific notes

What we see on each brand of dryer.

Each manufacturer has its own characteristic failure patterns. Here's what to expect — and what to ask your tech about — by brand.

Whirlpool / Maytag / Amana

29-inch electric dryers (Duet, Cabrio, Centennial) share the same drum, idler and belt platform — parts on the truck, one-visit repair almost always.

LG / Samsung

Moisture-sensor faults cause short cycles. Often a 5-minute fix — cleaning the sensor bars inside the drum — that other techs miss.

GE

Drum-bearing kit and front-felt seal failures on the GTD/GTW platforms — full disassembly job but cheap parts.

Bosch / Miele compact / heat-pump

Different beast entirely — heat-pump dryers need refrigerant-circuit diagnostics. We're trained on them; most local shops aren't.

FAQ

Dryer Repair questions, answered.

Call 813-295-7400 for anything else — a real dispatcher will pick up.

Why does my dryer take two cycles to dry a load?+

9 times out of 10 it's a vent restriction. We measure exhaust airflow with a manometer — under 0.6 inches of water column means the vent is choking the dryer.

Is a hot dryer normal in Florida summer?+

Cabinet warmth is normal; cabinet hot enough that you can't keep your hand on the top is not. Hot cabinets mean heat isn't escaping through the vent — diagnose before the thermal fuse blows.

Should I clean the dryer vent myself?+

The lint trap, yes — every load. The full vent run, no — improper cleaning can puncture flex duct and create a fire hazard. We offer vent cleaning as an add-on with the repair.

Do you service heat-pump dryers?+

Yes. Bosch, Miele, LG WashTower heat-pump pairs and stackable LG/Samsung models. These require specialized diagnostics — refrigerant circuit, condenser cleaning, evaporator fault codes.
