About cooktop repair in Tampa Bay
Why cooktops fail in Florida — and how we fix them.
Drop-in and slide-in cooktops have a different failure profile than full ranges — no oven to worry about, but the electronics live closer to steam and spills. We service induction, electric radiant, gas sealed-burner, and modular downdraft cooktops from every common Tampa Bay brand.
Most cooktop calls are touch-control failures (the glass-front capacitive panels die from steam intrusion), induction generator faults (E codes from a single zone), or sealed-burner igniters that won't reliably spark in humid kitchens. We also handle cracked glass replacements and downdraft fan motor service.
If a zone won't heat, the touch panel is unresponsive, an induction E-code is flashing, or a gas burner sparks but won't light, book a diagnostic. Flat-rate written quote, one-year warranty.
Symptoms we fix
If your cooktop is doing any of this, book a diagnostic.
- Element won't heat
- Touch panel out
- Induction errors
- Gas burner weak
What's included
Every cooktop job covers:
- Element & coil test
- Touch-control diagnosis
- Burner cap & cleaning
- Wiring check
Common causes
The failures we see most on cooktops.
Five to seven failures account for the vast majority of cooktop service calls. Here's what we find on the truck.
- 01
Touch-control panel failure
Unresponsive zones, ghost touches, locked panels — steam wicks in from below over years. Glass-front panel replacement, 60–90 minutes.
- 02
Induction generator (inverter) failure
One zone dead, E codes (E2, E4, F7 depending on brand), or a buzzing/clicking with no heat. The generator board drives the coil — when it fails, only that zone is affected.
- 03
Radiant element open
Standard electric cooktop — coil break, easy to confirm with a meter. The receptacle terminals also corrode in coastal homes and can mimic an element failure.
- 04
Spark module shorted or weak
Constant sparking on gas cooktops, or weak ignition that requires multiple knob turns. Almost always a wet spark module from a boilover.
- 05
Burner cap clogged or misaligned
Half a flame, yellow flame, won't light at one o'clock position. Often a cleaning job, not a parts job — we verify before recommending replacement.
- 06
Downdraft fan motor seized
Modular downdraft cooktops (Jenn-Air, Bosch, GE) — fan motor wears out from grease accumulation. Pull the unit, clean, replace motor if needed.
Typical pricing
Honest flat-rate ranges for cooktop repair.
Real ranges from real jobs. You'll get a written all-in quote before any work starts — these are not gotcha estimates.
| Repair | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Diagnostic visit | $99 |
| Touch-control board | $325 – $545 |
| Induction generator | $425 – $685 |
| Radiant element / coil | $215 – $345 |
| Spark module | $235 – $345 |
| Burner cap & seal kit | $145 – $245 |
| Downdraft fan motor | $385 – $625 |
Pricing reflects parts + labor for typical residential installs. Premium built-in units (Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Miele) and sealed-system work run higher and are quoted individually.

Brand-specific notes
What we see on each brand of cooktop.
Each manufacturer has its own characteristic failure patterns. Here's what to expect — and what to ask your tech about — by brand.
Bosch / Thermador
FlexInduction and Star burner cooktops — generator boards and ignition modules. We follow the Bosch service procedure rather than parts-cannoning.
Wolf / Viking
Pro-style sealed gas cooktops and induction modules — spark modules, dual-stack burner orifices, OEM parts mandatory.
KitchenAid / Jenn-Air
Modular downdraft platforms — fan motor and damper assembly failures are the dominant call.
Samsung / LG
Touch-control failures are #1 — capacitive panels die from steam wicking up through the venting on the underside.

FAQ
Cooktop Repair questions, answered.
Call 813-295-7400 for anything else — a real dispatcher will pick up.
Why is my induction cooktop showing an E-code?+
Brand-specific — but almost always tells you which generator (driving which zone) has failed. E2 commonly means an overheated generator, E4 a coil-driver fault. Diagnostic reads the live code and confirms.
Can a cracked induction cooktop be repaired?+
Glass-top replacement only — the cooking surface is part of the assembly. Cost depends on the brand and zone count. We give you the math before you commit.
Why does my gas cooktop keep sparking after I turn the knob off?+
Wet spark module or a stuck switch on the valve assembly. Turn the unit off at the breaker (and shut the gas valve if you can reach it) and book service — sparking will eventually short the module out completely.
Do you handle downdraft cooktop repairs?+
Yes — Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, GE Monogram, Bosch and Thermador modular downdraft. Fan motor and damper service, plus the cooktop modules themselves.
